At a glance
- The programme is 120 ECTS, divided equally across four semesters of 30 ECTS each.
- The curriculum has four domains: Brain Systems, Clinical, Technology and Computation. You study three of the four.
- Your home university sets your two semester 2 domains. Your third domain comes from your mobility semester.
- Ethical, legal and social aspects (ELSA) are part of every domain, not a separate subject.
The four semesters
| Semester | ECTS | Where | What you study |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1. Foundations and integration | 30 | Home university | Introductory courses in all four domains and ELSA, skills workshops (1 ECTS) and a challenge based learning activity. |
| 2. Domain specialisation and academic innovation | 30 | Home university | Advanced study of two domains, 15 ECTS each, chosen by your home university. |
| 3. Mobility, electives and industry engagement | 30 | Partner university | A third domain you have not studied before, plus electives from the partner's course catalogue (15 ECTS). |
| 4. Master's thesis | 30 | Home or partner university | An interdisciplinary, cross-domain research project. |
The full description of each semester, the ECTS breakdown and the curriculum diagrams are on semesters, curriculum and objectives.
The four domains
- Brain Systems: the anatomical and physiological foundations of brain function.
- Clinical: neurological, neurodevelopmental and psychiatric disorders and their treatment through neurotechnology.
- Technology: neural recording and stimulation hardware, devices, sensors and brain machine interfaces.
- Computation: neural data analysis and brain modelling, including data science and machine learning.

Course catalogues
Each partner university offers its own electives in semester 3, and the catalogue is updated regularly. The handbook does not link to the catalogues yet. Ask your home university's Local Academic Mentor for the current catalogue, or contact the university through university contacts.
